OK, I won't mention the 'C' word but, if you are thinking that you might like to decorate your house with wreath shaped ornaments in a few months', now is the time to make them.

The weather has been perfect for long, sappy growth on all sorts of plants, the ones drying (top) are some birch from a few weeks ago and some ivy from today but clematis, grape vine and even bind weed work well . Best to form the wreath while the stems are still soft and green. Store them somewhere they can dry out. If the leaves fall off, who cares, they can go on the compost heap. Decorate with natural materials and you can use them as firelighters after twelfth night.

175 feet of hedge trimmed by hand last week, between the showers! I do not deserve to have bingo wings!

At last, I've found a use for that swimsuit - with all the rain we've had recently, I've given up being a fair-weather gardener. So, dust off the bikini and get out those secateurs.

No, it isn't supposed to be a running track. That was as far as I got with mowing the lawn before the rain started again!

Gardening, at this time of year, is basically just crowd control. I spend every dry minute pruning or weeding, trying to keep out all the plants that want to move in.

Sadly, this lovely buddleja was one of the problems. It had grown all over the back of the shed roof and damaged the felt. Sorry buddleja, but you're gonna have to shrink.
But at least it will be useful. The prunings have been left for the enjoyment of the local wildlife. Someone recently asked me if I had an insect hotel. Not so much a hotel, more like a high density housing estate!

I'm really proud of this. I designed all the elements, including the main pattern. A 3-d stepper card, I'm really into them at the moment.

I know it's been a long time since I was last here. Blame work, it was pretty full-on for a while. I managed to go part-time in November but that only left 4 days a week for more important stuff. But, as of today, I'm free! No more work so no excuse for not returning to blog land.

The photo is of a patchwork quilt I finished a few years ago, just because is looks pretty.
